Greenchain splits duals against Bigfork, T-Falls

The Greenchain wrestlers split duals at home Tuesday, beating Bigfork 34-24 but losing to Thompson Falls 42-13.

Coach Kelly Morford said the team lacked some of the intensity of the early season, but the team is in a good place to finish the season strong.

“I feel like we lacked some intensity that we have been able to show previously,” he said. “This is always a tough part of the season to keep the energy up. We need to keep working hard and give a good push to the end of the season. We only have three competitions left before the post season. It is going to take our best effort if we want to compete at the divisional tournament. As a team, we understand that and I think we are in a good place mentally to keep improving.”

Morford said there are some issues the wrestlers need to overcome, mostly in attitude. Solving those problems will be a focus as the season progresses.

“We saw a lot of good things technique wise, but at the same time, we have some issues that have been plaguing us for a while that need to be corrected,” he said. “I thought we had better motion on our feet and were able to do a better job of creating some offense. We are starting to realize that if we change elevations and commit to a shot, we can take people down. We have been losing matches that are winnable for us because we haven’t been able to get off the bottom. There are some technique things that need to be fixed there but for the most part, it is an attitude thing. We need to learn to refuse to be held down. That will be a focus for us going forward.”
