The Lady Trojans started off slugglishly against the visiting Lady Lions of Eureka Friday night. Despite a strong second half effort, they were not able to overcome the deficit and fell to Eureka, 36-30.

The Lady Lions reeled off the first seven points of the game, holding the Lady Trojans scoreless until nearly five minutes had elapsed in the first period. The Lady Trojans were plagued by miscues and sloppy execution resulting in missed shots from the outside and missed opportunities to take it to the paint. The quarter ended with the Lady Lions taking a 9-4 lead.

The Lady Trojans fought a much stronger battle in the second quarter, primarily on the defensive end. They scored just five points, but held the Lady Lions to six by keeping their hands in the passing lanes and deflecting errant balls. The Lady Lions took a 15-9 lead into the locker room at the end of the first half.

The Lady Lions opened the third quarter with a quick three-pointer, putting the Lady Trojans down by nine. They followed it up with a strong defensive play and another score from a quick floater in the lane to push their lead to 11.

But the Lady Trojans didn’t give up. After a missed shot, the Troy girls fought for rebound after rebound until they were finally able to put it in the basket. The Lady Trojans went on a bit of a spurt, pouring in eight points to close the gap to three before Eureka hit one at the end of the quarter to push it back to five.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the teams, with Eureka adding another 12 to their total. The Lady Trojans managed another 11 to bring the final score to 36-30 in a hard-fought contest for both teams.
