The Lady Loggers started Saturday’s game slowly against the visiting Lady Badgers of Bonners Ferry, but they came back strong and held on for a 52-44 win in front of the home crowd.

The Lady Badgers reeled off 13 points in the first quarter to the Lady Loggers’ 11, most of which came as the period drew to a close. The Lady Loggers were forced to make some early defensive changes to slow down the attack.

“Bonners Ferry’s girls came out playing really well on offense,” head coach Jim May said. “We had to make some adjustments with our defense to slow them down. They were really a handful.”

The changes worked in the second quarter, as the Lady Loggers outscored their foes 17-7 to take an eight-point lead into the locker room at the half.

The Libby girls were able to hold on to that lead in the second half, as they traded baskets with Bonners Ferry. Both teams had great offensive production in the third quarter, with Libby outscoring Bonners Ferry 16-14. In the fourth, the Lady Badgers managed 10 points to Libby’s eight, keeping the margin at eight points as the game ended.

“I was pleased with many of our offensive possessions,” May said. “When our energy was good we really made it hard for them to score. Our future success hinges on having that energy and execution on a more consistent basis.”

The Lady Loggers next play host to Loyola. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.
