Troy girls advance in district play
The Lady Bluehawks of Thompson Falls came to Troy Tuesday night hoping for a play-in game victory against the Lady Trojans. The girls of Troy sent them home disappointed, however, shooting their way to a 38-27 victory.
Aurora Becquart led the ladies with 14 points, followed by Allie Coldwell with 10.
Head coach Justin Young was pleased to see his team overcome the nerves associated with a play-in game and work their way to victory.
“The play-in games are one of the most nerve-wracking experiences in high school basketball,” he said. “I was proud of the way the girls handled it. They came out intense from the start and were able to get a jump on T-Falls in the first quarter. After that they used some ferocious defense to grind out the win. We came out flat on offense the second half, missing a couple of good looks down low to start out the third quarter. Our girls never took their nose from the grindstone on defense, though, and were able to keep T-Falls from putting up any points in the third quarter.”
The win keeps the Troy girls in contention for district and divisional play.
“The best thing about this win, though, is we get to spend two more weeks playing this beautiful game, and being together as a team,” Young said.
The girls traveled to Bigfork Thursday night, but scores were unavailable as of press time.
