The Pirates of Polson pillaged their way through the Loggers’ lineup Saturday night, taking home a hard-fought 54-48 victory.

The Pirates used their size and strength to dominate the Loggers early on, running up a 16-3 lead early in the first quarter. The Loggers started to adjust, using their speed and outside shooting ability to close the gap to just nine by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, a battle in which the Loggers came out slightly ahead. They managed to score nine additional points on the Pirates, while holding them to just eight. The teams went into the locker room with Polson leading 26-18.

The third quarter was also an evenly pitched battle, with each team scoring 12. The tit-for-tat scoring left the teams still separated by eight points as the quarter ended.

The Pirates jumped out as the fourth quarter opened, scoring seven points to push their lead up to 15 before the Loggers came back with a three-pointer to try to swing the momentum back in their favor. The teams battled back and forth, with Libby’s boys gaining a little ground before the bigger Pirates pulled away to put the game out of reach. The game ended with the Loggers down, 54-48.

The Loggers are on the road in Thompson Falls Thursday night for District 7-B playoff action.
