Elizabeth (Betty) Streckel

| December 27, 2016 2:09 PM

Elizabeth (Betty) Steckel, 82, long time Libby resident, left this world to be with her Lord on Dec. 20, 2016 at the Libby Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Oct. 8, 1934 at Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Rudolph and Elizabeth (Galloway) Steckel.

It was Betty’s strong faith that allowed her to face this most difficult time with courage and dignity. Betty was a long time member of St Josephs Catholic Parish and was always there to lend a hand and sing with a beautiful and glorious voice whenever she could.

She graduated from St Joseph’s Girls academy in 1954 in Stevens Point, Wis. where she was born and grew up. She then went on to become a radiology technician and reflexologist. Betty worked in several hospitals in Montana, including St John’s Lutheran Hospital in Libby for more than 20 years. She was beloved by her patients and staff alike. She was a champion bowler and traveled all over the country participating in several Queens Tournaments. Betty was also known as someone that could be counted on to take care of others and provided food, rides and overall caring to a number of Libby’s senior citizens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers — Paul, John, Phillip, William, George, Rudy and Robert.

Survivors include her younger sister Dorothy Arabus and her husband Ed of Bellevue, Wash.; her feline companion Barney as well as several nieces and nephews. She also had a number of dear friends that she considered family and she will be dearly missed by all of us.

Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016 at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at St Josephs Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St Josephs Catholic Church. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
