Christmas Carnival brings Yuletide cheer

While the Libby Christmas tree lighting didn’t go as expected, parents and their kids overlooked the technical difficulties for a chance to have fun.
On Friday afternoon, families gathered around the tree on the end of Mineral Avenue.
After Libby Chamber of Commerce Director Pam Peppenger and Mayor Brent Teske thanked everyone for coming, it was time for the ceremonious lighting of the Christmas tree that everyone was waiting for.
When they went to flip the switch, however, the tree did not come on.
But that didn’t slow the evening down, as everyone made their way to Asa Wood for the fourth annual Christmas Carnival, where businesses banded together once again to create an evening of holiday-themed family fun.
Booths were set up where kids could buy treats, play games, open presents and make craft projects.
The event included activities such as bobbing for apples, bowling, crafting tables, a train set on display, a dartboard, balloon animals, digging for prizes in a tub of packing peanuts, a snowman-themed beanbag toss and a visit and free photo with Santa Claus.
As with every year, every child got a prize, no matter what.
The Christmas tree was lit-up that evening.
