Resources available for abused women

| December 2, 2016 2:23 PM

We need everyone’s help in stopping the senseless violence and deaths in our county. If you hear screaming and possibly physical fighting, call 911! Keep calling every time you hear it.

Abuse can only happen when the abuser is free to use his power and control over his victims without interference. So interfere! Do it anonymously if you want but call for help for the victim and children. If you can talk to the victim, let her know there are means to escape and urge her to do so before he ends up killing her and the kids.

Lincoln County Crisis Solutions has three domestic violence shelters. If it is not safe to stay in Lincoln County, we can help them escape to their parents or friends where they will be safe. We have quizzes for victims that let them know just how dangerous their situation with questions like, “Is he abusing the pets to show you, it could be you next?”

The number of questions they answer yes to shows them how likely staying will end up in their murder. We have safety planning tools to help her stay safe with such things as having a “code word” that once she uses, for their children or loved ones to know she is in real trouble and they should call 911. Have her call or you call us for more information how together, we can stop the next murder and hold the abuser accountable!

Crisis phones are 293-3223, toll free 1-877-493-7139 and in Eureka 291-2715, all 24/7.
