The Libby Loggers boys soccer team came out on a pounding pace in their season opener to topple Stevensville 4-0 on Friday at Logger Stadium.

Senior midfielder Cody Wood led the Loggers with two goals and an assist. Fellow senior Colin Maloney posted a goal of his own and an assist and freshman midfielder Sebastian Sanders scored the fourth.

Libby came out aggressive in the first half behind Wood, who clocked his first goal three minutes into the game with an assist from Maloney. Libby kept the pressure on the Yellowjackets with persistent shots on goal by Wood and freshman midfielder Sebastian Sanders before Maloney skimmed a deep shot past Stevensville’s keeper with an assist from Wood to push the lead to 2-0 with 11 minutes remaining the first half.

Libby was able to the carry its momentum into the second half, visibly charged as Sanders threw a dab at the hometown crowd before the clock began.

The Loggers laid a relentless offense on Stevensville with four more shots on Stevensville’s goal before Wood scored his second goal of the day in the 10th minute.

Sanders got an assist for a goal of his own in the 69th minute to seal the contest 4-0.

After forfeiting the girls’ game, Lady Loggers coach Jay Forsyth took the reins for the boys’ team as head coach Mark Petersen was out of town.

"They moved the ball well, had an opportunity to play," Forsyth said."They certainly dictated the pace of the game and it didn’t really sway much."

The Loggers will Face Park High School on Friday at 3 p.m. before the girls’ game at Logger Stadium.
