Libby volleyball tops Polson tournament

Lady Loggers go undefeated in first weekend

The Libby varsity volleyball team dominated at the season kick-off tournament last weekend.

Libby won the Mission Tip-Off Tournament Saturday after defeating Anaconda during the final match.

The seven teams, including Mission, Plains, Libby, Anaconda, Ronan, Loyola and Deerlodge went against each other over the weekend.

“Very pleased with how the team played, especially for the first competition,” volleyball Coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “Three-hour drive there in a school bus leaving at 5:54 a.m. and they still had good energy in the championship. They wanted to win the ‘Big Marble’.”

During the seven-team elimination, Libby outscored Ronan in at the Loyola court 20-12 and 16-20. They beat Mission 20-10, 20-11, and Loyola 20-11, 20-11. After their win, they faced Anaconda in the Plains court, ultimately defeating Anaconda 20-17 and 20-13 for the Tip-Off win.

In total, the team had 97 kills, 96 assists, 14 blocks and 91 digs.
