The Troy Trojans fell 62-0 in their home and season opener to the Bigfork Vikings on Friday.

Troy senior quarterback Tucker Winn led the Trojans on offense with 32 yards on 3-for-22 passing to his receiving corps. He rushed six times for 39 yards and threw three interceptions. Hunter Leighty caught one pass for 22 yards.

Bigfork averaged 12.6 yards a play while putting up 328 total offensive yards on Friday to Troy’s 76. In his first outing as the starting quarterback, Augie Emslie led Bigfork with three touchdowns and three completions for 144 yards.

“We knew Bigfork would be tough,” first-year Troy skipper Kody Hoffman said. “They were big. We were trying to spread them out a little more and work out the athleticism, but they matched up really well against our wide receivers. They have a really athletic group.”

The Vikings didn’t waste any time padding the lead early, scoring 35 unanswered points in the first quarter. Bigfork quarterback Augie Emslie started the offensive onslaught with a 31-yard toss to Anders Epperly about two minutes into the first quarter. Showing their strength on the ground as well in the air, Bigfork rusher Matt Farrier romped into the end zone for the Vikings second score just a minute and a half later.

Bigfork posted 20 more points in the first half and let up on the Trojans in the second half, adding just one more third-quarter touchdown to seal the game at 62-0.

Hoffman said with a smaller team this year, Troy will have to focus on defense to keep teams from punishing them all season.

“We had a couple missed tackles, a couple bad calls on my part but the team fought through it and held their heads high at the end of the game, thats all I can ask for,” he said. “We’re going to have to be better at tackling and just going to have to execute plays better in order to match up with them.”

The Trojans this week will look for redemption against the Conrad Cowboys at 7 p.m. at home.
