Raymond Calvin Johnson, 74, of Libby

Raymond Calvin Johnson, 74, of Libby died on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 2, 1941 at Goldbergs, Ore. to William and Gladys Johnson. Ray was the youngest of 12 children. He was raised in Drake, N.D. for most of his childhood before moving to Noxon for a few years. His parents finally settled in Thompson Falls.

Ray worked on the Noxon Dam at age 18. At age 19, he moved to Vantage, Wash. to work on the dam. He met his wife of 41 years, Harriet Janssen in Kittitas, Wash. They were married Sept. 2, 1961 in Ellensburg, Wash. They lived in Vantage for two years before moving to Libby in April of 1963. Ray started working at J. Neils Lumber Company. They raised their three children in Libby. He worked for the mill for 38 and a half years before retiring in 2001.

Ray married Carol Mullen on October 30, 2003 in Reno, Nev. They enjoyed traveling and spending the winter months in Apache Junction, Ariz. He liked to go camping, fishing and traveling. He also loved animals. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife Carol Johnson, Libby; son Steve Johnson (Julie); a daughter Kathy Wood (Gary, both of Libby; son Terry Johnson (Liz), Texas; a brother Bob Johnson, Rome, Georgia; nine grandchildren Jill Rooney (Kelly), Gary Wood (Arionna), Ryan Wood (Alaura), Patrick Wood, Heather Volkers (Kory), Megan Johnson, Kaela Johnson, Jake Johnson and Clare Johnson; three great-grandchildren Hunter Rooney, Ellyonna Wood and Rilynn Christina; numerous nieces and nephews all across the United States; and his step-children Rick Gullingsrud (Doreen), Libby; Julie Gullingsrud, Libby; and Mary Lou Even (Mike), Lewiston, Idaho.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
