As summer comes to an end, the Troy City Council got a chance to look back on their finished and almost-finished summer projects and look forward to the creation of new businesses around town.

The council met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the finished shade cover at Roosevelt Park, the construction of the pickleball courts and to approve business licences for a new wholesale bakery and a novelty shop.

Mayor Darren Coldwell briefed the council on the completion of the new shade cover at the Roosevelt Park between the kid’s water splash and the playground equipment. According to Coldwell, the shade cover is a square cloth above two picnic tables. Because of the recent hot temperatures, Coldwell said that they really needed it.

Coldwell also briefed the council on the brand-new overlay on Grant Street, which he said is going to be chip-sealed in a couple of weeks.

The pickleball courts started construction this week and Coldwell suspects they will be done in the coming weeks. According to Coldwell, Whitefish built pickleball courts recently and now a person needs to make a reservation to use them.

Coldwell also praised the new handicap-accessible dock overlooking the Kootenai River at Roosevelt Park.

The council voted to approve the business license for Ashley Neely’s Munchie Monster Wholesale Home Baking and for Crystal Webley’s Yaak Attack Central, which will sell T-shirts, hats, shot glasses, among other novelty items. The decided to table Zachary Clearwater’s Clearwater Mechanical business license until further notice.

They decided to take a month to look over Chicken Ordinances throughout the state, to come to a decision about area chicken owners.

The next Troy City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sep. 21.
