Libby freshman Ryggs Johnston shot a tournament-record 68 to claim the title at the Thompson Falls Invitational. He missed the course record by just one stroke after a bogey on the 17th hole.

The boys team finished first in the field, shooting a combined 341 between the four golfers, with Jonny Cielak’s 80 earning third place honors.

“Ryggs started his attack on tournament records by taking down the Thompson Falls Invitational,” said coach Dann Rohrer. “He shot a 68, taking hold of the tournament record. He was one shot away from the course record falling back from five under to four under with a bogey on the 17th hole. Ryggs has three more years to get the course record and I, for one, can tell you that record is in trouble. Jonny Cielak continues to play very solid golf with an 80 good for a third place. Andrew Freese had a great day shooting a super round of 89 one shot out of a top 10 finish. Wow, what a great round for a new freshman golfer. Zander Petersen also had a very fine day on the links shooting a 45 on the back nine to help his team to a first place finish. The boys team has really worked hard to become a real player in the class B team consideration. We have over half our team who are new golfers and they have come farther that any group I have ever been a part of. Great job boys you have demonstrated what hard work can accomplish.”

The Loggers only put two girls on the links, with Lily Feeback placing sixth with a 103 and India Croucher shooting 136.

“Not to be out done the girls also had a top 10 finisher,” Rohrer said. “Lily Feeback shot a 103 good for 6th place. Lily continues to play very solid in all aspects of the game. India Croucher as a new player shot a 136 and continues to work very hard getting better and better each week.”
