Mary Hebenstreit
Mary Hebenstreit
73, of Libby
Mary Josephine Hebenstreit went to be with her God at 1:48 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2016, at the age of 73. Mary was diagnosed with ALS on Nov. 30, 2015. Her life was cut short by this disease in only 120 days. Mary was born in Chicago, Ill., and married Larry Hebensteit in Chicago, Ill., on August 5, 1961. After 54 years of marriage Mary accomplished many things in her life.
She graduated from college in her later life and became a Substance Abuse Counselor. She loved flowers and was known to have had a green thumb. She became active in volunteering with several organizations in Libby. She loved to dance to all sorts of music including square dancing; she loved bowling, hiking, traveling, cruising the high seas and many other activities. Mary filled her life with the joys of living life to the fullest and helping others. She will be missed by her husband, and extensive family and many, many friends.
Survivors include her husband Larry; three children, son Larry, daughters Susan and Sharon whom she loved and nurtured; she had two granddaughters, Cassandra and Kera, and one great-granddaughter, Jaidyn.
Mary wished to be cremated, with her ashes to be saved for a private memorial by the family. A Celebration of Life was discussed before her death but it will now take place at a future date to be announced this summer.
The family asks that memorials be made to any ALS Foundation Chapter in her name to help fight this devastating disease. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
