A house fire on Sheldon Flats Road was extinguished Wednesday morning before it could cause significant damage or injury.

Lincoln County Rural Fire Department was dispatched to the residence of James Cosgriff at 11:53 a.m. and quickly doused the fire. First Assistant Chief Steve Lauer said he wasn’t able to quantify the extent of the damage, in financial terms, but the fire was contained within the kitchen area and extinguished before it could spread to the rest of the house.

“The damage was limited to the cabinets in the kitchen above the stove,” Lauer said. “There was also some damage from smoke travel into the living room and dining room areas.”

Lauer said the fire was accidental, likely caused by unattended cooking in the house.

Libby Volunteer Ambulance and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene, but there were no accidents or injuries from the fire.
