Celebrate fall with T. Scot Wilburn and his band
Letter to the Editor:
It’s always good when one of our own does well in the world. T. Scot Wilburn is one such son of northwest Montana. Raised in a log cabin between the echoes of the Cabinet Mountains and the laughing waters of the Kootenai River, Scot has always had music in his blood.
He grew up going to barn dances and Grange Hall concerts as a kid, attending with his father Harold and his uncle Vern Wilburn, who were members of the Snake River Outlaws, one of the most popular cowboy bands of the 1940s and 1950s.
Many of us remember Scotty playing locally and our buddy has since excelled in high note fashion.
Scot has played with many greats including Ferlin Husky, Hank Thompson, Hoyt Axton, and Ramblin Jack Elliot in places including NPR’s Prairie Home Companion, the Kennedy Space Center, the Grand Ole Opry, the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and other festivals.
Scotty and his band, the Shut Up-N-Playboys, will be playing a one-time only show on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Riverfront Park along the Kootenai with opening acts starting around 4:30 p.m.
Music will continue until about 7:30 p.m., and there will be a homegrown dinner available, beer, vendors and children’s activities. This event is sponsored by Montana Wilderness Association and the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. For tickets and information, call Ashley at 406-291-2708 or email: asouth@wildmontana.org.
Folks, we have a lot to be thankful for this fall. The smoke has cleared, the future looks bright. Let’s celebrate together in our beautiful valley.
