Flathead boys, Glacier girls take top honors at Libby cross-country meet

The Libby cross-country team kicked of their season at J. Neils Park Saturday, Sept. 5. Thanks to some rain in Cut Bank the Libby Invitational had more teams than expected.
“There were eight teams at the meet,” Cross-Country coach, Rod Tempel said. “We were expecting four teams. There was supposed to be a meet in Cut Bank but they got a bunch of rain the night before and their course was in bad shape so four teams came to Libby instead.”
Temple said he was pleased with the way his kids ran in their first meet.
“I was pleased with how our kids ran,” he said. “We ran pretty well. When you consider we basically haven’t had much opportunity to train outside due to the air quality the kids should be happy with they way they ran.”
Colin Maloney was the first member of the Loggers team to finish with a time of 17:06.42. Tim Goodman finished with a time of 18:48.35. Nik Gier was the third boy to finish with a time of 19:24.35.
Lauren Thorstenson was the first girl to cross the finish line for the Loggers with a time of 21:59.28. Mikalyn Zeiler finished with a time of 23:23.08. Trinity Wallace finished with a time of 23:26.44.
The next meet for the cross-county team is Thursday, Sept. 10 at Ronan.
“The team ran much better than I expected in the first meet,” Tempel said. “Looking forward we will continue to get stronger as we get more training. I was very pleased with our kid’s performance in the first meet. They supported each other and cheered each other on. As we get in better shape we will see stronger performances. I also want to thank everybody who helped out at the meet Saturday. Without their help we wouldn’t have been able to put on the event.”
