Troy picks up first win of volleyball season
The Troy Lady Trojans volleyball team started the 2015 season at a tournament in Mission, Saturday, Aug. 29. The Trojan’s went 1-1-1 during pool play and won one match and lost one in tournament play.
Last year the Trojans failed to win a match. The young Lady Trojans were able to pick up their first win of the season early and leave the 2014 season in the rearview mirror.
“The improvements that they have shown since last year has been amazing,” Trojans head coach Mandy Love said. “You could tell from the first day of practice that this year was going to be better.”
The Trojans started pool play against Anaconda and dropped both sets. They lost the first set, 13-20, and the second set, 14-20.
They then split the second match against Plains. They won the first set 20-15, but dropped the second set, 13-20.
The Trojans finished pool play with a win over Mission. They won both sets, 20-16, and 20-11.
The Trojans started tournament play with another win over Mission. They won both sets again, 15-8 and 15-8.
The Trojans finished the tournament against Anaconda. They lost both sets by the scores of, 10-15, and, 12-15.
Love said she was pleased with the way her team started the season.
“I was really impressed with how we played Saturday,” she said. “We played with great energy and intensity.”
Sami Rohrich finished the tournament with three aces and 13 kills. Tana Thill and Sarah Pierce both had three aces.
Aurora Becquart recorded 16 kills and three blocks. Allie Brown finished the tournament with 33 assists. Kaitlyn Downey led the team in digs with 13.
Love said her team has made great strides since 2014 and will continue to improve throughout the season.
“The girls are greatly improved compared to where they were last year,” she said. “It was a good way to start the season.”
