Remains of missing Libby man found

For nearly a year a year and a half, the family and friends of William Steven “Bill” Tebby have searched for him or news of him. Their search ended Monday morning when the Boundary County coroner confirmed that skeletal remains retrieved from a gravel island in the Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry, Idaho, are those of Tebby.

Tebby walked out of a bar in downtown Libby on May 30, 2014, to have a cigarette and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. The car he was driving at the time of the disappearance was recovered, but no sign of Tebby was ever found, until last week.

“The Boundary County coroner has confirmed that the skeletal remains found in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, have been identified as those of William Tebby,” wrote Lincoln County Sheriff Roby Bowe in a press release Oct. 26. “Sheriff’s Office investigators notified family members immediately following the notification by officials. The coroner has not yet announced the cause and manner of death.”

Bowe also wrote in the release that his department is continuing to investigate the circumstances of Tebby’s disappearance and death and has asked for anyone with information to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
