The Libby Loggers ended the football season Friday night, suffering defeat at the hands of visiting Thompson Falls, 41-6.

Logger head coach Neil Fuller said special teams mistakes hampered what was otherwise a strong effort from his team.

“Friday was by far our best effort as a team for the season,” Fuller said. “Thompson Falls ended up as conference champs and if we hadn’t given them three easy scores off of punt team mistakes we were right there with them. I’m proud of the kids for staying positive all year and overcoming a combination of youth and lack of physicality. Their efforts were outstanding and they never gave up.”

Thompson Falls reeled off two touchdowns in the first quarter, followed by three more in the second. A missed point-after kick following a 72-yard punt return by Bluehawk Corey Tessier with 4:47 remaining in the first half prevented the game from going into the accelerated timekeeping rule.

The Bluehawks pushed the score over the required 35-point gap with 11:09 left in the third quarter on a pass from Jase Sorenson to Tessier, with a converted kick for seven.

With 4:19 left in the game, Libby quarterback Braydan Thom found Erik Lauer in the end zone for six, the point-after was missed.

Despite the score, Fuller praised the work and effort of his team.

“Our offensive line played their best as far as pass protection, Braydan Thom threw some great passes and showed a lot of composure and our receivers made some good catches,” Fuller said. “Erik Lauer and Logan Nelson both had some tough receptions.  I thought our defense played very well and only gave up a couple of big plays. Dylan Parrish and Josh McGough and Josh Shaver all played really well on the defensive side of the ball. They all had their best games of the year.”
