The Libby Loggers’ football woes continued Thursday night, as the Choteau Bulldogs put up five touchdowns in the first 11 minutes of the game on their way to a 56-6 rout of the Loggers.

Libby coach Neil Fuller praised the hard work and dedication of his players after the game.

“Cole Walker started off the game with a six yard run on a toss sweep,” Fuller said. “It was well blocked and Cole ran well. He played well on both sides of the ball. Our offensive line gave Brian Peck time to make some good reads throwing the ball. Brian also had a couple of good runs. Tanner Wood continues to play well. Josh McGough played well on defense along with J.J. Davis who had several tackles. Braydan Thom, Dylan Parrish, and Erik Lauer executed on a double pass play to get us in the end zone. Choteau has some outstanding athletes and again out physicalled us but I’m proud of our kids’ efforts and positive attitudes.”

The Bulldogs opened up the scoring on a drive capped by a three-yard run by Layton Lockwood. Lockwood then showed his stuff on the defensive side of the ball, scooping up a Logger fumble and returning it eight yards for his second touchdown of the night.

Choteau scored again, just six minutes into the game, Steeler French scored on a one-yard rushing play. Libby’s ensuing possession ended in a punt, which was returned by Choteau’s Collin Achenbach for their fourth touchdown. On Choteau’s next possession, Achenbach scored on a five-yard run to push the score to 36-0 with just one minute remaining in the first quarter and the mercy rule in effect. When the score differential reaches 35 points, the clock continues to run except at the end of a quarter, and injury, timeout or penalty.

Neither team found the end zone in the second quarter, so Choteau took their 36-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

Choteau added two more touchdowns in the third quarter, on runs from French and Pete Henderson. Defensive back Jonathan Moore added a pick-six in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 56-0.

Libby avoided the shut-out when Erik Lauer snagged a 39-yard pass from Dylan Parrish for the Loggers’ only score of the night as the game ended.

The Loggers end their season Friday at Logger Stadium against Bigfork. Fuller hopes to see his players continue to improve in the contest.

“We hope to see continued improvement and outstanding effort from the kids,” he said. “Hopefully we will be able to get something going offensively and be able to slow them down on offense with a great defensive effort. They have some outstanding athletes and we’ll have our work cut out for us.”
