The Lincoln County High School Lions scored 21 points on three touchdowns in the first quarter at home Friday night. It created a deficit the Troy Trojans couldn’t work their way out of as they fell 48-16 in the 7-B conference match-up.

The Eureka boys put the first three scores on the board, with touchdown passes from quarterback Austyn Sherwood to Jacob Nowakowski, James Dunn and Brenton Pluid. Troy’s Sean Opland responded with a 65-yard touchdown run, but the Trojans just couldn’t catch up to the rampaging Lions.

Opland scored two rushing touchdowns for the Trojans, in the first and fourth quarters. Conner Quiring and Tucker Winn added the two-point conversion runs to each touchdown.

Sherwood ended the game with five passing touchdowns, two to Nowakowski, one to Dunn, one to Pluid and one to Bryant Little. Garrett Graves and Pluid each added rushing touchdowns to the total score.

“It was a tough game up in Eureka,” Troy coach Brendan Miller said. “Us coaches didn’t get the players prepared for the game.  We were flat from the start and never got going.  Normally we dominate the second half, but we just got out played by a tough team.  We plan on spending the week shoring up out pass defense and looking to upset Thompson Falls.  We still have a shot at the playoffs, but it will be a tough 2 weeks.”

The Trojans have their final home game of the season this week against Thompson Falls, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Next week they travel to Bigfork to take on the Vikings.
