Libby cross country team ends season
Libby’s cross country team ended the regular season at a meet in Whitefish over the weekend. The girls placed third in team competition, beating conference rivals they’ll be facing again Thursday at the divisional meet.
“We had an awesome meet on the girls’ side,” said head coach Rod Tempel. “We came in third over there, and we’ve never run higher than seventh at this meet. We beat a number of teams from our conference, so it looks good going into the district meet later this week.”
Lauren Thorstenson led the Lady Loggers with a 21:36 time, enough to put her in seventh place.
On the boys’ side, Tim Goodman ran the course in 18:05, enough to earn 18th place in the crowded field.
Tempel praised his team’s dedication and effort, citing poor air conditions as part of the problem with the Loggers’ finish in a number of meets.
“We’ve had smoke since the second week of the season, so we’ve had to limit the amount of practice usually to 20 minutes per day,” Tempel said. “You can’t get ready for a cross country race in 20 minutes per day, it’s just not enough training time, but I am extremely pleased with the kids. They haven’t been able to train the way they should, but they have a lot of heart. I can’t say enough about how well they’ve done.”
The district meet begins in Thompson Falls at 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
