Steve Leavitt

Steve A. Leavitt, 64, died on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby. He was born at Nessa, Ore., on July 21, 1951, to Harry and Ardith (Hutton) Leavitt. He was raised in Libby and attended Libby Public Schools.  

Steve enlisted in the United States Army in 1968. He became a medical corpsman, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He served with distinction and was highly decorated. He remained in the Army, serving a total of 22 years. He served three tours in Germany and retired from the Army in 1990. 

Steve resided in Clarksville, Tenn., until coming back to Montana in 2007. He worked for Collins and Akeman in Nashville, Tenn., as a material handler and dye setter. He lived in Kalispell until moving to Libby in 2011. 

He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather George Myhre and a stepsister Melody Trusty.

Survivors include his wife Kaycee Leavitt, Libby; his children Susan Leavitt, Alecia, Heidi, Steven Leavitt, Jr. and a stepdaughter Misti; his mother Ardith Myhre; sisters Cathy Leavitt Haines, Mardelle Keefer and a half-sister Lorrie Leavitt Baudouin; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at the Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby.  Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the funeral home.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
