At approximately 3:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon a tow truck crossed the center lane on U.S. Highway 2 roughly 30 miles southeast of Libby, striking an oncoming sport utility vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, carrying three occupants. The driver and two other occupants of the Tahoe, registered to an owner in Troy, were all transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Two are listed in stable condition and one is considered critical, according to the house supervisor. The driver of the tow truck was uninjured in the accident.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Josh Brown, the vehicles both rolled off the road, each ending on its passenger side. Fisher River Fire and Rescue responded, along with Libby Volunteer Ambulance, Advanced Life Support and extrication teams. The top of the Tahoe had to be cut to facilitate the extrication of one of the vehicle’s occupants for transport to the hospital. The two truck also sustained damage Brown characterized as “significant.”

Montana Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, although Brown confirmed the tow truck driver was cited for unspecificed violations related to the accident. Officials have not yet released the names of the individuals involved.
