Libby High School hosted the Western B Divisional Girls Volleyball Tournament last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Libby’s Lady Loggers came up short and lost to Anaconda’s Copperheads and Bigfork’s Valkyries and were eliminated from the tournament.

The Lady Loggers lost to Anaconda in straight sets 25-18, 25-20, and 25-12.

Libby managed 23 kills against the Copperheads with Mehki Sykes accounting for seven. She also got in four aces, putting Libby at 10 aces total for the match. Ashley Walker’s 13 assists led the team’s overall effort of 20.

In the team’s defense, Emily Mossburg scored two of Libby’s three blocks against Anaconda. Meanwhile, Bailie Rosling scored eight of Libby’s 18 digs.

The Lady Loggers took Bigfork to five sets before finally succumbing in the second match, 25-18, 16-25, 22-25, 25-14 and 6-15.

Sykes made 11 of the 39 kills Libby scored against Bigfork while Haylee Cannon scored eight of Libby’s 23 aces. Walker was a big part of the team’s assists, scoring 25 of the team’s 33.

On the defense, Mossburg scored three of Libby’s six blocks, and Rosling stuck 20 of the team’s 48 digs.

Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston stood by the Lady Loggers, taking pride in their accomplishments.

“I was very pleased with our team serving percentage of 91 percent,” said Ostrem-Johnston. “I felt the three seniors stepped up and did some good things during the tournament. Taryne and Ashley served extremely well at 96 percent and 93 percent,” said Ostrem-Johnston. “Bailie passed solid and had some great digs.”

Ostrem-Johnston praised the team’s sophomore, Cannon, on all aspects of her play, junior Madisen Monigold on her serves and passes, and freshman Jayden Winslow on her aggressive plays.

“Even though we did not play the way we wanted to, it was great for all our young players to get some tournament experience for the future,” said Ostrem-Johnston. “I believe the future of Logger Volleyball could be very bright.”

Ostrem-Johnston thanked all those who supported the Lady Loggers this season.

“Thank you to all who supported us this season,” she said. “Our student section at home matches was awesome.”
