Hecla donates truck and equipment to Troy schools
Hecla Mining, the company which recently purchased Revett Silver and with it the Troy and Rock Creek mines, recently donated a used pickup truck to Troy Public Schools.
Bradley Kucera, an employee of Hecla at the Troy Mine, contacted the school district and offered to donate the truck, a 2004 Chevrolet 2500. The school accepted the donation, but when the truck was delivered the back of the truck was loaded with welding equipment as a surprise extra donation to the school’s shop classes.
Keith Haggerty, the district’s transportation and maintenance director, commended the mine and the new owner’s continued commitment to the Troy community.
“The Troy School District received a useful gift from Hecla-Mining when they delivered a 2004 Chevy truck loaded with welding supplies. The Maintenance Department will benefit from the truck and the shop classes will have a large cache of supplies to utilize for some time. It is amazing how much the mine has helped the Troy area over the years.”
Dr. Jacob Francom, superintendent of Troy Public Schools, sent a letter of appreciation to Kucera and the company.
“We would like to express our appreciation for your generous support and donations of the pickup truck and other welding supplies from the Troy Mine to Troy Public Schools. Troy Public Schools are proud and honored to be given these donations and will put it to good use. Our students and staff members will use the equipment, they will be gratefully used by our Welding class and Maintenance department for years to come.
“When the welding items were delivered to the class the students were amazed at the volume they unloaded and they immediately discussed how they could use the items for different projects. Our maintenance department has plans to utilize the truck for everyday needs and snow removal. The entire school district has benefited greatly over the years from the Troy Mine. We are thankful for all it has provided to our schools and community.
“Thank you again for the support that you show to the Troy School District and the community of Troy.”
