Krysten Mossburg led Libby’s track team to an impressive performance at the Northwest A divisional tournament this past weekend. The tournament was held in Libby Friday and Saturday.

Mossburg was Libby’s only division champion, finishing first in the long jump with a jump of 15-10 1/4. She also placed third in the high jump at 4-10 and was part of the girls 4x400 relay team, which also placed third.

“Krysten had a good day with the long jump, winning that on her last jump. She also did well in the high jump and on the relay,” Libby coach Jim May said.

The top five finishers in each event qualify for the state tournament, and Libby will be taking a bus full. The tournament will be Friday and Saturday in Laurel.

Joining Mossburg on the team headed for state will be her sister, Emily. The younger Mossburg qualified in the high-jump, placing fourth, and in the 4x400 relay. The other members of the relay team, also sisters, are Shyla and Sidney Stevenson.

Rounding out the girls contingent are Asia Jones, who placed fifth in the shot put, and Shelby McLinden, who placed fifth in discus.

Collin Johnson led the boys’ team, qualifying in four events. He placed second in the 800, with a time of 2:03.17, a full four seconds faster than his all-time best.

“Collin had a wonderful divisional meet. He ran the 800 four seconds faster than his personal best. He was seeded 10th in the long-jump and overachieved, finishing fourth,” May said.

Johnson also qualified in the long jump and both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay.

Also qualifying for the relay competition was Dominic Voorhies, on both teams, and Stetson Enyeart in the 4x100 and Laine Young in the 4x400.

Also qualifying in four events was Luke Adamson. Adamson finished fourth in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints and joined Johnson on both relay teams.

Freshman Michael Diller placed fifth in the 3,200, coming in at 10:52.33.

“Michael ran the 3,200 15 seconds faster than ever to make it onto the bus for state,” May said.

Michael Curtiss rounded out the boys’ qualifiers with a second-place finish in the shot put at 45-5 1/4.

“Michael has been struggling a bit, but he put it all together for this meet,” May said.

The team will leave Libby after school Wednesday and travel to Missoula, where they’ll spend the night before completing the nine-hour drive to Laurel. They have a practice session at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the competition beginning Friday morning.
