In classic Montana springtime fashion, the Troy tennis team’s scrimmage with Clark Fork lasted about a half-hour before the rain showers came. The showers turned to hail and then the sun made an appearance while the hail continued. However, the courts were too wet and Clark Fork’s golfers had to be picked up in Bonners Ferry on their return trip.

Troy’s assistant coach Nancy Prieve said the first matches of the year are susceptible to being rained out. “We don’t often get to make up the matches either, because of scheduling difficulties,” she said.

Before rain washed the tennis players from the courts, doubles team CJ Beard and Craig Helmrick were cruising to a win. Dominic Chiaverini also looked solid in his match, displaying a strong serve and nimble footwork. Chiaverini and his opponent were the last players to reluctantly leave the court.

Clark Fork brought a team of six to the non-scoring scrimmage with the Trojans on Tuesday.

When the clouds let loose, both teams scampered to their vehicles or found the protection of an awning. After about 10 minutes it was determined the matches would not resume and vehicles left the courts.

The Trojans compete against Libby on their home courts today at 3:30 p.m.
