Sallie Schmauch Abentroth
Sallie Schmauch Abentroth died March 9 surrounded by the love of her family. A celebration of her life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at the Choteau Pavillion. There will be a gathering of friends and family for a light luncheon at the Choteau Country Club following services.
Sallie was born Sept. 28, 1946, to Leo and Ada (Ferris) Schmauch in Kalispell. She was raised in Libby and graduated from Libby High School in 1964. She went on to college at Brigham Young University. In 1969 she married Mike Abentroth in Libby. She raised her son and daughter in many towns in Montana and Alaska before settling in Choteau in 1987.
She worked for12 years in special education and chapter 1 at Choteau Elementary, two years for 3 Rivers Communications and was a family service worker for Head Start. She was scorekeeper for Choteau volleyball for 25 years and travelled to cheer on the Carroll College Saints volleyball team for four years. Over these years, Sallie loved and inspired many students. She was a second mom to many kids.
She is survived by her husband Mike and son Aaron of Choteau; daughter Alissa Simmons; son-in-law Hasani; grandchildren, Aayden and Quinlyn of Montana City; brothers, Fred (Mikel) of Salt Lake City, Utah and Mike (Nancy) of Missoula; best friend of 64 years Sheila Peterson Gilbert of Libby and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family in Montana and North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
To know Sallie was to love her. She was always there with a smile and hug. Memorials are suggested to the Bright Eyes Animal Rehab, the Humane Society or to the ALS Association.
