William Cummings

William E. Cummings, 67, of Troy, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at his home in Troy. He was born April 26, 1947, in Libby to William “Alex” and Violet (Rice) Cummings. Bill grew up and attended school in Troy and graduated with the Class of 1964. He enlisted in the United States Army following graduation and spent time in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Chicago, Ill. Bill married Shirley Esposito in 1969 in Arlington, Va. They moved to Williamsport, Pa., where they started and raised their family.  

Bill worked as a welder for a manufacturing company and also worked nights at the Lycoming County Prison as a correctional officer. He was a long-haul truck driver for Systems Transport in Spokane, Wash. Bill returned to Montana in the late 1990s and drove truck over the road until his retirement. He took a medical retirement at the age of 58.

Bill liked playing cards and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed helping out at the Senior Citizen Center in Troy and cherished spending time with his family. He was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church. Bill was preceded in death by his sister Wanda and his brother Jim.

Survivors include his children, Theresa Michael and William E. Cummings, Jr., both of Williamsport, Pa. and Brian A. Cummings of Portland, Ore.; grandson Nathan Route of Pittsburgh, Pa.; siblings, John Cummings (Dixie) of Libby, Larry Cummings (Judy) and Bob Cummings (Sue) all of Troy, Mike Cummings of Petaluma, Calif. and sister Cindy Shelley (Dennis) of Chehalis, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
