Lady Loggers' season ends with tourney wins

The Lady Loggers lost their opening game in the Northwest A divisional tournament, but rebounded from the loss with two wins to emerge the consolation bracket winner.

In the consolation final, Libby’s girls defeated Whitefish, 48-37. The Lady Loggers controlled the game from the outset, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 10-7 in the first quarter and exploding to a 28-16 halftime lead.

Libby stayed strong in the third quarter, adding another three points to their lead, and held off a late-game rally by Whitefish to secure the 11-point victory.

Shyla Stevenson led the Lady Loggers with 15 points on six-for-eight shooting. She added four rebounds, six steals and an assist in the game. Hailey Craig added 11 points and four rebounds to round out the double-digit scorers.

Hailley Moe scored six, Devon Gallagher and Abby Ennenga each added four, Dayln Germany and Madisen Monigold chipped in three apiece and Shannon Reny scored two to round out scoring for the girls.

They earned their spot in the consolation final by defeating Polson earlier Saturday morning, 39-34.

The Lady Loggers took an early lead in the game, outscoring Polson 10-7 in the first quarter. The second quarter proved rough for both teams, with only seven total points scored. Libby scored four of those seven points to take a 14-10 lead into halftime.

Polson fought back in the third quarter, scoring 10 to Libby’s six, tying the game up going into the final period. With each team scoring 12 in the period, the game ended in a tie, forcing the game into overtime.

Libby outscored Polson 7-2 in the extra period to secure the victory and advance to the consolation game against Whitefish.

Shannon Reny, Hailey Craig and Hailley Moe each scored nine to lead the Lady Loggers. Reny added seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. Moe had six boards, an assist and four steals, with Craig adding a rebound.

Frenchtown defeated the girls in their first game of the tournament, 30-20, to send them down to the consolation bracket.

After fighting to a one-point lead in the first quarter, Frenchtown came back to outscore Libby 11-9 in the second quarter and take a one-point lead into the half. The third quarter was all Frenchtown, as they scored 10 to Libby’s three. The fourth quarter was rough for both teams, but Frenchtown outscored the Lady Loggers 4-2 to secure the victory.

Hailley Moe led the Lady Loggers in that contest, with seven points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Devon Gallagher and Hailey Craig each added five more.

The Lady Loggers finished the regular season 9-9, and were 11-10 overall after the divisional tournament. Columbia Falls and Frenchtown advance to the state tournament.
