Big Creek and Glacier National Park to host student programs
Every year, students from around the country come to the Glacier Institute to develop skills to understand the unique species and ecosystems of Glacier National Park. With a wide array of outdoor course offerings throughout the summer, the Glacier Institute plays host to curious minds of all ages - hosting children’s camps at their Big Creek Outdoor Education Center, located 21 miles north of Columbia Falls and adult courses at their Field Camp, located just inside Glacier National Park.
Big Creek has big plans for campers at the end of the month, as they invite 14-16 year olds to build backpacking and wilderness awareness skills at the Soaring Eagle Backcountry Wilderness Camp, which runs June 28 - July 3. In one of the Glacier Institute’s most physically strenuous youth camps, students will gain hands-on backcountry experience under the supervision of expertly-trained Glacier Institute staff.
Field Camp will also be hosting adults curious to learn more about the mushrooms and lichens of the Crown of the Continent. In this two day workshop scheduled for June 27 and 28, instructor Tim Wheeler will provide a thorough introduction to fungi and the role they play in the northern Rocky Mountain ecosystem.
