The Blue Moo ice cream parlor is open again. This summer will mark the second year that the ice cream parlor will be serving up ice cream to the town of Libby.

The Blue Moo owner, Lonnie Fosgate, has been living in Libby for 25 years. He grew up in Cloquet, Minn.  He got married in his hometown and moved to Two Harbors, Minn.

“Then 25 years ago a strong east wind blew us out to Libby and I haven’t looked back since,” Fosgate said.

The Blue Moo serves ice cream, frozen yogurt and Montana Dogs. The Montana Dog is not a typical hot dog.

“It’s 100 percent black angus beef from Montana. There is no pork and no chicken,” Fosgate said.

“Our avalanches and our shakes are two of the more popular items on the menu,” Fosgate said. “The avalanches are like the Dairy Queen blizzards.” Fosgate explained.

“Our more popular days are the ones in which its not raining.” Fosgate said jokingly. “Typically though Saturday is the more popular day,” Fosgate said.

Fosgate decided to open up the Blue Moo after the Dairy Queen closed.

“After Dairy Queen closed down there wasn’t anything in town, and I was Dairy Queen’s biggest customer,” Fosgate said with a smile.

“My kids came up with the name Blue Moo. We were looking for something catchy and my kids came up with it.” Fosgate said.

Fosgate explained why he opened up the Blue Moo, “I like ice cream and thought there needed to be an ice cream shop in town again.”
