Head Start receives grant
Last fall the Kootenai Valley Head Start participated in the Montana Preschool Development Grant trough Montana State Office of Public Instruction. They have recently been notified that they have been awarded a grant worth $1,676,296 over a four-year period.
The first two years of the grant is worth $756,800. The first year of the grant will focus solely on professional development for the staff. The Head Start program currently has staff members in school pursing their bachelor’s degree in early childhood development.
During the second year of the grant, KVHS will be expanding five of the six classes to six hours a day. They will also be expanding the number of days they provide services to the children.
Peggy Rayome, the director for KVHS on being awarded the grant, said, “We are looking forward to working with Libby Public Schools with their two new preschool classrooms at the Plummer Center this fall; making free comprehensive preschool available to additional children in the community.”
