An open thank you to Sen. Steve Daines

Finally, there is some common sense in outlawing fireworks. I know I’m part of the really old generation, but for the life of me I don’t understand why anyone would spend hundreds of dollars sending something up into the sky to explode and listen to a bunch of pops. Yes, fireworks are pretty, but to sit there and watch nearly the same thing for hours is beyond me.

Think of the thousands spent that could help a lot of people who are more concerned about food and clothing than the popping of firecrackers. How about using that money for a good cause? I’m sure the people selling those fireworks would do just fine if they were not allowed to sell them. I’m sure they have full-time jobs.

Was selling fireworks also not allowed in the ordinances? If not, it should have been. How many fires have been set and how many kids have been hurt over the years?

It is very irritating when retiring at night to try to sleep with the constant pop going on. This goes on for days before and weeks after the Fourth of July.

Let’s go one more step and outlaw them permanently. I’m sure we can all celebrate our independence just fine with family and friends without any fireworks. I believe there are a lot of people who feel the same way.
