One wreck claims two vehicles in separate locations

Two cars were wrecked at separate locations in Libby Monday afternoon in an incident beginning at the corner of 10th Street and Mineral Avenue and ending at the old Libby High School on Mineral and Lincoln Boulevard.

According to Libby Police Chief Jim Smith, James Cordero was traveling westbound on 10th Street when his Dodge pickup collided with a minivan driven by Patricia Ryals. Smith said Ryals ran the stop sign and 10th and Mineral, causing the accident.

Smith said Cordero then left the scene, traveling north on Mineral Avenue. He reportedly ran the red light at Highway 2, but lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree on the old high school property, smashing his truck.

“It was pretty easy to figure out what happened once we got there,” Smith said of the scene.

Both drivers, Smith said, were treated and released from Cabinet Peaks Medical Center the same day.

Ryals was cited for a right of way violations. Cordero was cited for careless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident.
