Ducks race down Flower Creek
The rain didn’t stop the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce from hosting its annual Duck Race fundraiser Saturday, July 11. The race started near the Flower Creek Bridge and ended downstream near the Highway 2 Bridge near Rosauers.
The ducks were split up into four heats. The winner of each heat got his or her money back ($20) and the first three ducks in each heat advanced to the money round. Each heat had around 20 to 25 ducks make the short journey downstream.
Kate Stephens owned the winning duck of the money round and won $300. Glacier Bank was the owner of the second place duck and won $200. Robin Benson had the third place duck and won $100.
Pam Peppenger, one of the coordinators for the event, said it was a fun event, even with the rain.
“It’s always fun doing this event,” Peppenger said. “The only thing that was difficult was getting the net set up in the stream so the ducks didn’t continue to flow down the river. We really struggled to get that thing up, I’m sure it was entertaining for people driving by watching us try to get that thing up. The rain wasn’t cold it was refreshing. I was having fun as long as I didn’t tip over in the water and fall completely in.”
