The annual Lincoln County Junior Fair is right around the corner. This year’s event will mark the 58th time the fair has taken place in Lincoln County.

This year’s fair will start Thursday, July 16 and end Saturday, July 18. Cathy Jenks, the director for the Junior Fair has been helping with the event for 16 years.

“The purpose of the Lincoln County Junior Fair is to promote good sportsmanship and to provide a learning experience for the youth of Lincoln County,’ she said. “Typically we have 100 kids participate for the community funded event.”

The event will start with registration at Asa Wood School Gym from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, the 16.

On Friday, July 17, there will be a parade starting at 10 a.m. by Timberline Auto and ending at the Asa Wood School.

“It’s a short parade,” Jenks said. “If we had it any longer it would be too hot for the animals.”

From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday all the exhibits will be open for public viewing at Asa Wood School Gym.

Following the open house there will be a performing arts contest that starts at 7 p.m. in the gym. The performing arts include: musical instruments, song, dance, mime, skits and public speaking. Performers must provide their own musical instruments, props and costumes. Each performance will be timed and cannot exceed 10 minutes.

The animal exhibit will take place Saturday, July 18, at J. Neils Park starting at 8 a.m.

The exhibit at the school will start at 2 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. followed by an award presentation at 5:30 p.m.

The event focuses on the kids of Lincoln County and that’s why Jenks likes being part of it.

“It’s for the youth of Lincoln County,” Jenks said. “It recognizes their talent and abilities. Every exhibit receives a ribbon.”
