Libby's Mac's Market under new ownership
Mac’s Market has been a staple in Libby for over 50 years, but now it’s under new ownership.
“Everybody knows Mac’s Market,” Mel Siefke said. “It’s been here for over 50 years. The previous owner was going to shut it down, so we decided to take control of it.”
Ann Siefke was looking for a new job when this opportunity presented itself.
“I was working at the law office in town before I started this journey on March 30,” she said.
The couple lives in Libby and enjoys the outdoors. They believe running Mac’s Market fits into their lifestyle.
“We both enjoy the outdoors,” Mel said. “I run a taxidermy store in town.”
Siefke also owns Wildlife Recapture Taxidermy located on Highway 2 West in Libby.
There will be a grand opening Saturday, July 11, to celebrate the store’s new ownership. It will start at 10 a.m. and run until 6 p.m.
“We are going to have a barbecue and there will be a lot of door prizes,” he said. “We plan on having quite a few people show up.”
Mac’s Market has been in Libby for quite some time, but the store has gone through changes under the new ownership.
“We have more sporting goods and new brands that weren’t sold here before,” Mel said. “The front of the store is brand new. We do raft and paddle boat rentals. We also do fishing pole rentals. Hopefully people within the community hear about the changes and stop by to check them out.”
In a town surrounded by nature, having a store like Mac’s Market is essential. People within the community need a place to go to get their supplies for hunting and fishing. It also gives people within the community to showcase their talents.
“We have a guy in town that makes high quality fishing poles,” he said. “This store gives him a place to market his work.”
The Siefke’s have plans on expanding Mac’s Market, but wish not to divulge their plans just yet.
“We have plans in the work to make some expansions and improvements, but we don’t want to comment on that yet,” Mel said. “We are still working on the details.”
