Chamber duck race July 11
For a toddler a rubber ducky represents an awesome bath toy. This Saturday a rubber ducky represents a chance to win some extra money for the people of Libby.
The Libby Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Duck Race fundraiser at noon on Saturday, July 11. The race will start at the Flower Creek Bridge and end downstream at the Highway 2 Bridge near Rosauers.
Pam Peppenger is one of the coordinators for the Duck Race and she is expecting nearly 150 ducks to make the swim. “We are expecting around 150 ducks and it could be more if people purchase ducks this week.”
Ducks can be purchased until 4 p.m. on Friday, July 10. Each duck is $20 and each person can purchase as many as they want. “They can buy as many ducks as they want, we encourage it,” Peppenger said.
The ducks are split up into heats. “We put each duck into a heat. If your duck wins the heat you win your $20 back,” Peppenger said. “The first three ducks in each heat get put back into a container and participate in the final race. There will likely be four or five heats.”
The final race, or the money race will take place after the final heat is finished. The first duck to cross the finish line will win $300. The second place duck will be $200 and the third place duck will win $100.
The duck race serves as a fundraiser for the Libby Chamber of Commerce. Peppenger encourages people to come watch the event on Saturday. “We encourage people to come watch the race. It’s a fun little event that the community can enjoy.”
