| January 27, 2015 7:48 AM

Alfred T. Corda, 76, of Libby died Tuesday, Jan. 20 at home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.  He was born April 19, 1938 in Greenfield, Calif., to Alfred B. and Frances Corda.

Alfred served in the United States Navy for two years and then attended Humboldt State where he received a degree in Forestry.  He worked on many different forests in northern California after graduation, including the Sierra National Forest where he met his wife, Ruth. They were married in 1976 and their daughter, Courtney, was born in 1978. The family transferred to Libby in 1981, where he worked on the Kootenai National Forest as a Silviculturist until his retirement in 1998.

Alfred enjoyed hunting, dog training with his many Labradors, bowling and shooting trap, skeet and sporting clays. He was involved with and held offices in the Lions Club, NRA, Scatterguns and Ducks Unlimited. He was also a coach for his daughter’s Little League softball.  He enjoyed mentoring youth and sharing his knowledge with many. His quick wit, humor, and contagious smile touched many lives. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Corda of Libby; daughter Courtney Corda of Portland, Ore.; sister Claudia (Jerry) Smith of Greenfield, Calif., sister-in-law Gwen Stevens of Fresno, Calif.; and three nieces, Dana of Calif., Lisa of Mo. and Cara of Calif.; and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred B. and Frances Corda.
