Lady Loggers lose in Frenchtown

The Libby Lady Loggers fought a tough battle in Frenchtown on Saturday, but in the end fell short, losing 46-38.

Frenchtown jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Lady Loggers 11-8 in the first period. But Libby’s girls fought their way back into the game, outscoring the home team 12-11 in the second and 11-8 in the third quarter to take a 31-30 lead into the final period.

Frenchtown poured it on in the fourth, closing out the game by outscoring the visiting Lady Loggers by a margin of 16-7.

Shyla Stevenson and Devon Gallagher led the Lady Loggers with 10 points each. Stevenson racked up a double-double, adding 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal. Gallagher contributed four boards, five assists, one steal and a block.

Hailley Moe scored seven points and added five rebounds, an assist and two steals. Hailey Craig chipped in another six points, plus three rebounds and an assist.

The Lady Loggers shot 34 percent from the field and 30 percent from three-point range. They made 11 of 17 free throw attempts for 64 percent.

Coach Jim May said, “They played hard.  It was a game we could have won, but too many defensive mistakes were made that finally caught up to us.  We let a fourth quarter lead slip away on the road. So, it’s back to work for our home games against Plains and Polson this weekend.”

The Lady Loggers are now four-and-four on the season, with 10 games left to be played. Plains will be visiting Libby for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Friday, with Polson coming in for a 5:30 p.m. game on Saturday, according to the high school’s online calendar.
