Libby Greenchain wrestling dropped their dual meet against Frenchtown at the Ralph Tate Memorial Gym Saturday night.

Five Greenchain wrestlers scored wins against the visiting Broncs, but forfeits in three weight classes sealed Libby’s fate in the final team score.

Laine Young scored the Greenchain’s first win, with a 14-1 decision over Frenchtown’s Dee Vang in the 126-lb. class. Cody Kessel also won his match on points, with a 13-4 victory against Bryce Williams in the 138-lb. class.

Zach Crace, at 160 pounds, tallied Libby’s first pin of the meet, dropping Tyler King at the 1:47 mark. Michael Miller, at 170 pounds, followed suit by pinning Frenchtown’s Cole Jones at 1:57.

Libby’s final competitor, defending state champion Garret Chapel, pinned the Broncs’ Tristan Austin at 2:28.

Libby’s coach, Kelly Morford, was optimistic about the team’s performance. “We’re a heck of a lot better off the bottom than we were at the start of the season,” he said. “We’re making some small mistakes that have cost us some points, but we’re getting better.”

The Greenchain will be in Eureka tonight and then travel to Missoula over the weekend for the Rocky Mountain Tournament.
