Steven Johnson

Steven Lee Johnson, age 55, passed away of heart failure in Whitefish on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015.

Steve was born in Libby on June 22, 1959 to Donald and Mildred Johnson. He attended Libby High School and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1977 until 1979 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He attended North Idaho Technical School in Couer d’Alene, Idaho and completed the Mill Wright Program.

On Dec. 17, 1988, Steve married Colleen DePuydt in Libby. Shortly thereafter he began working for Burlington Northern Santa Fe as a signal maintaner in Sandpoint, Idaho. He went on to work for BNSF in Malta, Culbertson, Essex and Cutbank. After retiring from the railroad in 2001, Steve became a property developer and investor.

Steven enjoyed the mountains, outdoors, hunting, camping and gardening, as well as entertaining family and friends. He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous and volunteered with Salvation Army; he had a heart for those lonely, hurting or in need. Steven was a devout Christian and ministered wherever he went. He gave after his death as well by being an organ and tissue donor.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his three brothers, Don, of Missoula, Clay of Libby and Chris of Troy; his wife Colleen, of Columbia Falls; son Darren Johnson; daughter-in-law Rachel Johnson; daughter Stephanie Johnson and her boyfriend Richard Dorman and gradsons Archer Johnson, Oliver Johnson, Mark Shanahan, Wyatt Dorman and Louis Dorman.
