Troy boys lose close road game

In a competitive game on the road, the Troy Trojans lost to Stillwater Christian on Tuesday, 56-66.

The Trojans were down five at halftime and were then outscored by five points in the fourth quarter, resulting in the 10 point loss.

Troy coach Jerry Mee said the Cougars started the game with a lot of energy. “They were fired up, they came out with guns blazing.” The Trojans battled back in the up-and-down game that Mee called a lot of fun.

Mee said the Cougars outworked his team for rebounds. “Stillwater had too many offensive rebounds and too many shots,” he said.

With about two minutes to play in the game Stillwater had the ball and were up by three points. They fired up and missed a 3-ball, got the offensive rebound, and then drilled a 3-pointer to go ahead by six. The play put the game out of reach for the Trojans. Mee said Stillwater made five or six 3s in the game.

The Cougars dribble penetration was another area of the game that gave the Trojans difficulty, Mee said.

Sean Opland led the Trojans in scoring, pouring in 19 points. Gage Tallmadge added 16 points and Brennan Olds netted 10 for the Trojans. Mee said Olds went six-for-six from the free-throw line.

Next on the schedule for the Trojans is the Bigfork Vikings, who will visit Troy for a game on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Vikings are ranked Number 1 in the state. “We’ve got to make sure we get back on defense, they’re really good in transition. We’ve also got to try to take away their inside game,” Mee said.
