Events schedule for county libraries

The Lincoln County Public Library system has a full calendar of events scheduled for February.

Each of the three branches hosts weekly story times for preschool-aged children. Libby’s story time is on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.. Troy hosts story time on Fridays at 11:15 a.m. Eureka has theirs scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays. All pre-school aged children are invited to attend and participate in story time.

The Troy branch hosts chess games every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite board and set, but some will be available as well.

February at the Libby branch is Blind Date With a Good Book month. The library will assign a random “date” at checkout and no peeking is allowed.

Patrons are encouraged to report back about the book they were given when returning it.

Other events scheduled include:

• Friends of the Library book sale from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Libby branch.

• Writing workshop with author and University of Montana professor Caroline Patterson from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 in the Sunburst meeting room in Eureka.

• Valentine’s Day after-school program for ages 6 to 12 at 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Libby branch. The library will supply the materials needed to make Valentine cards.

• All branches of the library will be closed on Feb. 14 for President’s Day.

• National Battery Day after-school program at 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Libby branch. Students age 6 to 12 will learn about different kinds of battery. Participants are invited to bring their favorite battery-operated toy for show-and-tell.

• The Race in Montana series continues with Phillip Burgess’ presentation of “A Black Homesteader’s Struggle” at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Cabinet Mountain Brewery in Libby.

• National Chocolate Covered Nut Day after-school program at the Libby branch. Students age 6 to 12 will have chocolate treats and learn about chocolate and how it’s made at 4 p.m. on Feb. 25.

• The Libby and Troy Friends of the Library are joining forces to hold a silent auction to benefit the libraries. The event will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Cabinet Mountain Brewery.

• Feb. 27 is amnesty day at the libraries. Any materials less than 90 days overdue can be returned in good condition and late penalties will be waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.

• The Libby monthly book discussion is set for 11 a.m. on Feb. 28. This month’s featured book is The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt.

The Lincoln County Library branches are located at 220 W. 6th St. in Libby, 207 N. 3rd St. in Troy and 318 Dewey Ave. in Eureka.

The Libby branch is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The Eureka and Troy branches are open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
