The Lady Trojans got off to an excellent start but let it all slip away in the second quarter against the Thompson Falls Lady Bluehawks.

Thompson Falls pulled out a 49-35 victory in the District 7B matchup.

The Lady Bluehawks scored first, but then the Lady Trojans got on the board with an Allie Coldwell layup with 3:45 left in the first. Both teams took turns trading shots but sophomore Allie Brown hit a three with 3:08 to go to give Troy the lead for the remainder of the period.

Thompson Falls got their offense clicking in the second quarter as they regained a lead they would keep for the rest of the game.

With the score tied at 10, Allie Coldwell intercepted a pass and drove the length of the court to give the Lady Trojans a 12-10 lead with 5:46 to go in the half. After that, however, it was all the Lady Bluehawks. With 1:22 left in the half, Thompson Falls Shey Hannum drove into the lane and was fouled as she made a layup. She sank the free throw to give Thompson Falls a 20-13 lead.

“I was happy with the girls’ performance,” Lady Trojans head coach Justin Young said. “We started out strong, but lately we’ve been having a habit of slowing down in the second quarter and that really hurts us. But overall we improved since the last time we played Thompson, and I couldn’t be happier with the way the girls played tonight.”

Freshman Aurora Becquart got things going for Troy when she was fouled on a shot but connected and went to the foul line. Becquart sank the lone free throw to make the Thompson Falls lead 26-16 with 6:33 to go in the third. Troy buckled down and played tough defense at the beginning of the third quarter, but Thompson Falls found holes in the Lady Trojans defense and took a 35-22 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Trojans fought back in the fourth quarter and kept pace with Thompson Falls. But the Bluehawks kept a comfortable lead as the final minutes ran out.

Bluehawks Shey and Autrey Hannum led all scorers with 14 points each.

The Lady Trojans will be back home on Feb. 6 to battle Bigfork.
