Library offers host of events in January

The Lincoln County Public Libraries are offering a full calendar of events in January. All library events are free and open to the public.

All three branches of the library offer weekly story time for pre-school children. The Libby branch holds children’s story time at 10 a.m. every Tuesday. The Troy branch offers it each Friday at 11:15 a.m. and the Eureka libary’s story time is Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

The Troy library also hosts chess games every Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Players of all ages and experience levels are welcome to attend. 

The Libby library is hosting a new event every Thursday in January, Tech Thursday. Patrons are encouraged to bring their gadgets, smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.... to the library for free help in operating them.

Jan. 1: All libraries closed for the holiday.

Jan. 5, 10 a.m.: Libby preschool story time for What the Dinosaurs Saw: Animals Living Then and Now. Children will participate in a discovery story time and then design a dinosaur.

Jan. 7, 4 p.m.: The after school program, for ages five through 12, will be held at Libby Elementary School to explore the sky and the stars.

Jan. 8, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.: Libby Friends of the Library book sale will be held, using the entrance on Main Street across from the post office.

Jan. 9, 1 p.m.: Local author and professor John Herrmann will present a writer’s workshop at the Libby branch to discuss any and all writing-related questions. 

Jan. 12, 10 a.m.: Sled Dogs Run is the topic of preschool story time in Libby, as participants construct a miniature sled and learn about the hearty sled dogs.

Jan. 14, 4 p.m.: The after school program, for ages five through 12, will be held at Libby Elementary School for Weather Or Not, as participants explore January’s interesting mix of weather patterns.

Jan. 16: All libraries closed for the holiday.

Jan. 19, 10 a.m.: Preschool story time features Katy and The Big Snow, as participants make snow globes and learn about the people and machines who keep the streets safe during winter weather.

Jan. 21, 4 p.m.: The after school program, for ages five through 12, will be held at Libby Elementary School. Participants will try their hands at track casting and learn about local animals.

Jan. 23, 11 a.m.: January’s Hot Drink and A Good Book discussion features The Alchemist by Paul Coelho.

Jan 26, 10 a.m.: Preschool story time in Libby, featuring Why Do Plants Grow in the Spring? Participants will learn about planting, seed growth and will plant a seed to watch it grow.

Jan. 29: Amnesty Day. The last Friday of every month is library amnesty day. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition will have all fees waived.
